Writing

I write for both academic and general audiences about topics related to my research.

See below for some examples of my writing about ethnographic fieldwork, the environment, the politics of representation, and Arizona :

For Sapiens, I wrote about reproductive freedom before and after the fall of Roe;

For Edge Effects, I wrote about the history of the Agua Fria River;

For Anthrodendum, I wrote about having to pause fieldwork due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and what it means to be “in the field”;

For Anthropology News, I wrote about Kyrsten Sinema’s political aesthetics;

For Current Anthropology, I wrote an article exploring contemporary ethnographic research against historical, political, and ethical claims to intergenerational Western migration.

Other writing projects include long-form journalism at Narratively (& here); in-progress projects about the Colorado River, and the intersections between kinship and elder care.
